Arriving for your appointment
When you arrive for your appointment, you’ll need to check in using our electronic check-in machines in our atrium. If you’re not sure where they are, you can speak to one of our volunteers wearing a pink t-shirt, who will be happy to help. Our volunteers can also help you through the self-check-in process, should you need it.
Once you have checked in for your appointment, you will need to head to the right place. You’ll find plenty of signage to help direct you, or you can ask for help from our volunteers, who can lead you to where you need to go. Since it may take a little time to get checked in and get to the right area, we advise you to arrive early for your appointment to help avoid any issues.
Waiting area
Once you’ve arrived in the right place, you will need to wait in the waiting area. Here you will find a place for you and your child to sit down. Some waiting areas may also have toys and other activities for younger children. If your child has additional needs, we offer several services that can help. Once a clinician is ready to see you and your child, you will hear your name called out in the waiting area. You will then be taken to a private room, where your appointment will take place.
Sensory challenges
A visit to Alder Hey can be challenging if you are a young person with sensory challenges. Strong smells, loud noises and bright lights can be too much for a young person and can increase anxiety. However, we want you to feel relaxed and have the best experience possible. This short film will help you and your family help prepare for your appointment at Alder Hey.
